PRODcast 66: Yasiel Puig Destroyer Of Baseballs
Productive Outs
The PRODcast

The lord giveth, and then she taketh away. We had hoped PRODcast 66 would be a joyous occasion during which we would celebrate the achievements of Yasiel Puig and also his recent 23rd birthday. But it turns out today is a day that will live in infamy, as our favorite baseballing player, Mike Trumbo, was traded from the Angles to the Diamondbags. It is with a heavy heart that we bring you this progrum.

Without further ado, though:

Mark Trumbo Hit The Everloving Piss Out Of A Baseball

This is Mark Trumbo’s solo bomb off of Dan Straily yesterday.

image

 The pitch: A belt-high, middle-in, 91 mph, four-seam fastball.

The swing: Perfect. Nice quiet load, gets the front foot down and just unloads the hips and hands. His right hand goes at that baseball like he’s trying to punch it in the mouth. It’s a beautiful thing, and it’s just ridiculous, ridiculous power.

The velocity off the bat: 120.1 mph

absolutely SWEET MOTHER OF F–

That’s the highest velocity of a home run this season by almost 3 mph, and the highest velocity since noted Destroyer Of Baseballs™ Giancarlo Stanton hit an absolute laser (off a guy who’s probably as old as your dad) and exploded the scoreboard in that acid flashback of a stadium in Miami last season.

The elevation angle: 20.6˚

True distance: 475 feet

image

The verdict: I’m not really sure you can hit a ball any harder than that ball is hit. After Trumbo murdered Straily’s offering, I spent a solid ten minutes watching the blast over and over, laughing maniacally, staring at my TV and basically doing this …

Mark Trumbo Is A Viking With A Broadsword

This is Mark Trumbo’s walkoff bomb off of Phil Coke yesterday.

image

The pitch: An 84 mph, cockshot of a 3-1 changeup (the fourth of the AB) from a guy who looks like this.

The swing: Gorgeous. He stays back perfectly on Coke’s cambio and clobbers it. Excellent load, balance and torque. And that extension … whoa, that extension. Just beautiful.

The velocity off the bat: 106.8 mph

The elevation angle: 32.7º

The distance: 425 feet

The verdict: That ball is absolutely crushed, and seeing as Mr. Trumbo is a “Friend of the PRODcast”, we’d like to think that we had something to do with this. That perhaps our offseason conversations somehow loaded him with karma a la Jim Rome and his Jungle guests. But that’s not the case at all. It has everything to do with Mark being a smart, patient and freakishly strong hitter whose timing is totally dialed in right now.
